The Physics department and SEPnet work closely with the Careers Centre and have drop-in sessions during the Spring term for those working on applications for placements. These sessions give students the chance to have one-to-one support on their CVs and cover letters, as well as, able to get interview support and general career advice.
The SEPnet Employer Engagement Advisor can help with informing students of external placements, SEPnet placements, and internal placements that students are eligible to apply for. Placements can run for 8-weeks during the summer or can be industry placements that last for a year. You can set an appointment with the SEPnet advisor to talk you through your options.
The Employability Moodle page is available for Physics students to get regular updates on placements and what employability activities are available through the department.
Recently, SEPnet has hosted an Physics Alumni Careers Event that brought back five alumni from across different careers. They talked about their career journeys and gave advice to students. This is an annual event and is open to all Physics students and occurs Jan/Feb of the academic year.
There is a RHUL Physics Employer Engagement Youtube Channel with some of our recent talks. We invite alumni and externals to come in and speak with our students. They give advice on career areas and discuss their career experiences and how students can gain experience in their fields.
Trips to Diamond Light Source (UK's national synchrotron science facility) and other companies are also on offer for students to gain a better understanding of different employers and career paths.
