Graduating with a degree in Physics from Royal Holloway can lead to many different career paths as our courses give you the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a number of roles.
More than 90% of our graduates are working or continuing to further study six months after graduation. Those in employment are working in a diverse range of industries and roles.
The Physics department is dedicated to embedding employable skills into the curriculum and in supporting students to gain career experience while studying for their degree. By having employable skills and career experience be a large part of the curriculum in years 2 and 3, our students have an advantage over other students when looking for employment.
Recent graduates are working as physicists, aeronautical engineers, science and engineering technicians, scientific researchers, technical sales, finance and investment analysts, management consultants, software designers and engineers, to name just a few.
We work closely with alumni to better understand what employers are looking for in recent graduates across different industries.
To better prepare students, the department is in partnership with SEPnet to promote placement opportunities to students. Students can use their summers after 2nd and 3rd year to gain industry experience with employers across the UK. Students can also gain research experience with internal placement opportunities, working alongside their Physics lecturers.
Finally, the department offers employability advice and supports students with talks from employers from Jana Checkley, the SEPnet Employer Engagement Advisor that works out of the Physics department.
