Modules and assessment

Applications now open

Royal Holloway has a sprawling countryside campus which houses specialist study spaces, as well as easy access into London’s historic sites and cultural programmes. It’s the best of both worlds.

Our International Summer School was created with this in mind. Visiting students will want to experience as much of the UK as possible, so we have designed our curricula around field work in the local area and central London. Check out what we have come up with in the module options below.

You can choose to take one or two of the three-week programmes on offer, selecting one module per programme.

Programme 1

  • Democracy, sovereignty and the rule of law: from Magna Carta to Brexit
  • Theatre in London: Shakespeare to the contemporary scene

Programme 2

  • Victorian England: history, literature and the arts
  • The heritage sector: understanding the past in contemporary society

Teaching will take place four mornings a week, with two to three hours contact time per day. One day a week will be devoted to a field trip relevant to the module.

During non-contact time, you will be expected to study independently and work on assessments. You will have access to our state-of-the art library facilities with study spaces offering views of the impressive Founder’s Building and the beautiful Surrey countryside.
