Computer Science applicants with BTEC Extended Diplomas

Computer Science applicants with BTEC Extended Diplomas

We are happy to consider both the QCF and RQF BTEC Extended diplomas, however as these two qualifications have slightly different syllabuses, there are some specific modules that you must complete to meet the entry requirements for our Computer Science programmes.

You can find information on these specific requirements below:

If you have taken the QCF BTEC Extended Diploma this must be in one of the following subjects:

  • IT
  • IT (Business)
  • IT (Networking and Systems Support)
  • IT (Software Development)

You will also need to have taken the Object Oriented Programming module and at least 5 of the following modules as part of your Extended Diploma:

  • Software Design and Development
  • Event Driven Programming
  • Procedural Programming
  • Developing Computer Games
  • Mathematics for IT Practitioners
  • Networked Systems Security

However, if you have taken only two of the above modules in addition to the Object Oriented Programming module, then any two of the below modules may replace any one of the above modules (for example, if you have taken four of the above modules including Object Oriented Programming, you must select four of the modules listed below to compensate for the two above modules that are missing):

  • Computer Networks
  • Managing Networks
  • Database Design
  • Data Analysis and Design
  • Web Server Scripting
  • Website Production
  • Digital Graphics
  • Computer Animation
  • Digital Graphics for Interactive Media
  • 2D Animation Production
  • 3D Modelling

You will also need to have a minimum of a grade B/6 in GCSE Mathematics.

If you have taken the new RQF BTEC Extended Diploma, taught from 2016 onwards, this must be in one of the following subjects:

  • IT
  • IT (Business)
  • IT (Networking and Systems Support)
  • IT (Software Development)

You will also need to have taken the Programming module and hold a minimum of a grade B/6 in GCSE maths.
