Research Environment
Excellence in research underpins all of Royal Holloway’s activities and aspirations. We aspire to produce world-leading research that substantially advances the knowledge base, and that fosters transformational impacts for individuals, society, and the environment. We also aspire to give our undergraduate and postgraduate students an education that is informed by the highest standards of research and scholarship.
We recognise that we have a responsibility to deliver excellent outcomes in respect of the public investment that supports our work and to support and protect our staff.
In doing so, our work is driven by core research commitments and values such as academic freedom, advancing and sharing knowledge, openness, integrity, ethical standards, mutual respect, and equality, diversity and inclusion. The high-level expectations are underpinned by the Code of Good Practice for Research.
Supporting Research Integrity
- Royal Holloway is committed to upholding the principles of the Concordat to Support Research Integrity. Our latest Annual Statement can be found here.
- Royal Holloway is committed to upholding the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) to enable better practice in research integrity, equality and diversity and to support changes in the wider scholarly communications landscape. DORA aims to promote real change in research assessment and seeks to improve the ways in which research outputs are evaluated by both funding agencies and academic institutions.
- Royal Holloway achieved the HR Excellence in Research award in November 2019 through demonstrating our commitment to the principles of the UK Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
- Enabling Success: Research Expectations sets out Royal Holloway’s general expectations about the research undertaken by its members of staff, with a view to providing a clear framework for supporting, enhancing, and managing research activity within the College. It should be read in conjunction with our Code of Good Practice for Research; the Concordat to Support Research Integrity and the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers.
