Staff diversity

As part of our commitment to an inclusive learning community, we actively pursue diversity at all levels among our staff and provide development support. Programmes include:

  • Springboard - a programme for early career women
  • Advance HE’s Aurora - a leadership programme for women
  • Mandala programme for BGM staff

Between 2017-21, the proportion of female professors at RHUL rose from 30.5% to 32.1% (above the sector average of 28.5%), while BGM professors rose from 7.7% to 10.1% (just below the sector average of 10.6%).

Our education structures

The Academic Board creates our education strategy and oversees all decisions related to education and teaching at Royal Holloway. Learn more about the Academic Board.

The Inclusive Education Board monitors our progress in reducing inequalities, improving attainment, close the awarding gap and going beyond the deliverables in the Access and Participation Plan to improve the ways that we teach and assess. Current funded projects include improving BGM peer mentoring, the extension of Headstart, inclusive assessment, and early employability support.

The Education Development Team supports the ongoing training and development of our teaching staff and provides support on learning technology, curriculum development, and teaching innovation. The team also supports postgraduates who teach.

This team runs various courses for Advance HE courses to ensure teaching quality.

CAPITAL: The Certificate in Academic Practice in Teaching and Learning is a postgraduate certification required of all lecturers and senior lecturers at Royal Holloway and must be completed before the probation period.
