Wellbeing Day

Wellbeing Day Highlights

  • Date10 November 2022

The Department of Psychology had the great honour of hosting the inaugural Wellbeing Day in November. Here are some of the highlights from the event.

On Wednesday 9th November, the Wellbeing Day successfully took place in the Wolfson building! Led by Dr Beatrice Hayes in collaboration with the THESIS group, this event was co-produced with a group of students (Anna Moreno, Jiafan Lou, Abigail Keizner and Aiman Suleiman). Approximately 100 students took part in a range of drop-in activities organised into three rooms:

  • The Creative Room – hosted by PhD student and THESIS group member, Gaia Giampetro, students engaged in creative activities such as painting, arts and crafts, and mindfulness colouring (led by Dr Vanita Chamdal).
  • The Taster Room – societies from across campus including Bad at Sports, Dance Soc, PokeSoc and AnimeSoc hosted activities showcasing how well-being is promoted by society membership.
  • The Talks Room – on-campus services such as Careers and Wellbeing, as well as invited speakers Dr Aysha Bellamy and the Young Minds charity, presented talks around managing wellbeing.

Following these drop-in activities, a wellbeing-themed quiz took place, hosted by quizmaster Dr Aysha Bellamy, with the winning team taking home a selection of prizes! Finally, Dr Beatrice Hayes hosted a Bake-Off fundraiser for the Young Minds charity whereby students and staff members baked cakes under the theme of ‘nature’. Voted for by all attendees, the Bake-Off Winner was the Psychology Director of Teaching’s daughter, Elizabeth Bourne! The runner-up was PhD student, Emine Bilgen.

The event was a great success! We would like to thank all those who shared their time with us. Of course, we would also like to thank all members of the THESIS group and the student team for their enthusiasm and involvement in making the day so enjoyable for all.
