MS Patient Power

MS Patient Power

  • Date23 November 2018

A ground breaking event took place in November at the European Charcot Foundation in Baveno, Italy.

MS21 Symposium - Psychology News

People with MS (multiple sclerosis) and neurologists shared a platform to debate if disease progression should be discussed with patients, a format developed by Professor Dawn Langdon in her role as Co-Chair of MS in the 21st Century (www.msinthe21stcentury.com). MS is a chronic, immune mediated disease which typically progresses over many years, leading to increasing disability. There was strong support for patients being given comprehensive information about disease progression, so that they can make treatment decisions that optimise their life experience and goals.

Professor Langdon spoke in support of “Knowledge is Power” for MS patients. Last year, the first debate of this type looked at sharing information about the risks and benefits of MS  drugs with MS patients. An open access paper about last year’s debate has just been published.
