On January 30th, 2020, the Physics Department organised its annual Alumni event for the current students. This year’s theme was careers in emerging technologies, and it attracted a large audience.
The event consisted of a series of talks delivered by five alumni, followed by some refreshments. This gave current students the chance to practice their networking with the more than 20 alumni that attended. It was an excellent chance to learn more about the opportunities a Physics degree can give you, and get helpful tips on career progression, applications, and finding your dream job. The talks were given by:
- Charlotte Ayres, Principal Systems Engineer at Ultra Electronics
- Connor Shelly, Higher Research Scientist at NPL
- Richard Head, Head of Digital Analytics at Johnson Matthey
- Alexander Pierrot, IT infrastructure Engineer at Mako Global
- Ilana Wisby, CEO at Oxford Quantum Circuits Ltd.
This is what the attending students had to say:
“It was a really good event that showed me I can do whatever I want” - 2nd-year student.
“I thought a physics-related career wasn’t for me, but now I’ve heard about what they do I think it’s definitely something I could do” - 1st-year student.
“The event was fun, and everyone was really friendly, such a good networking opportunity” - 2nd-year student.
