Tom Parkinson may be completing a PhD in composition (supervised by the Music Department's Brian Lock), but he is already an established composer on the theatrical scene.
Bryony Kimmings in I'm a Phoenix, Bitch
I'm a Phoenix, Bitch, the latest show by Bryony Kimmings with music by Tom, soon returns to Battersea Arts Centre following a sell-out run and glowing press in 2018. An international tour is also promised. In a 5-star review, The Guardian described the show as 'an offbeat musical about postnatal depression … an extraordinary piece of theatre … tied together by a series of brilliant songs, composed with heart and wit by Tom Parkinson'.
Tom has had a number of other recent successes as a composer. Another musical written with Bryony Kimmings and Brian Lobel, A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer, successfully toured the UK and Australia. We Are In Trouble, a dance piece choreographed by Ivgi & Greben, toured the Netherlands. Footnotes (for Crippled Symmetry), a dance piece choreographed by Keren Levi after Morton Feldman’s Crippled Symmetry, toured Germany and the Netherlands. And Ugly Chief, a show by Victoria Melody with Tom’s music for live brass band, will be touring the US this Spring.
Whenever does he find time for his studies?
