Rebecca Miller - conducting

Uppsala Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 50th anniversary this season. Regarded by many as one of the finest chamber orchestras in Sweden, the orchestra has previously received critically acclaimed live recordings on Naxos, with music by composers including Sibelius, Rossini and Stenhammar.

Rebecca Miller is in her fifth year at Royal Holloway, directing both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Born in California, she maintains an international conducting career that has included appearances with orchestras from the London Philharmonic to the Houston Symphony, and at the BBC Proms with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

A press release from the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra reads as follows: “In Rebecca Miller, we see a generous and communicative leader that we look forward to working with over the next three years. Her breadth as a conductor with creative ideas, clear musical intentions and pedagogical qualities becomes a strong resource in our vision for the orchestra.”

Rebecca Miller: “I'm absolutely delighted to have been appointed Chief Conductor of the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra. From the first notes we played together, I knew that this was a very special orchestra and that we shared a wonderful connection. The atmosphere on stage is one of camaraderie, respect, trust, open mindedness, commitment, and spontaneity - all the perfect ingredients for the collaborative environment that is an orchestra. I was very excited for the years of music-making ahead of us and for our future projects. I look forward to my work in Uppsala in the coming seasons, and to further get to know the people and culture of Sweden."
