Director of Performance, Dr. Mary Dullea, has developed new modules for 2022 entry building a new Masters level pathway in "Collaborative Piano". One of these new modules is 'The Vocal Coach: Répétiteur and Rehearsal Pianist' which will introduce the student to the role of the Vocal Coach, Répétiteur and Rehearsal Pianist, through lectures, workshops, coaching and rehearsals, participation, and observation.
The student will become familiar with general matters of pronunciation for singers in a number of languages, the basic concepts of vocal technique and how these two combine, in both classical and musical theatre repertoire. The student will also experience first-hand the role of rehearsal pianist, following a conductor and the understanding of scores (piano reductions and initial understanding of reading orchestral scores) in this regard. As a collaborative pianist the student will develop the communication skills required for these aspects of the role and will demonstrate their understanding of same in a variety of situations.
Mary Dullea has an international profile as a chamber music pianist and accompanist. This module will also be supported by the vibrant student performance activities at RHUL and the expertise of its Instrumental and Vocal Teaching Staff.
