A new release from Dr Mary Dullea (Director of Performance) with her ensemble the Fidelio Trio highlights rarely performed music from the 20th-Century composer Ernest Moeran.
Fidelio trio moeran disc
A special album release coming up on 4th February from Director of Performance, Dr. Mary Dullea. It is a collection of chamber music for piano and strings by the composer Ernest Moeran, performed by Mary with her piano trio colleagues in the Fidelio Trio, joined by Irish violinist Nicky Sweeney. Moeran's love for Ireland and absorption of its music and musicians led to the composer making Kenmare in Co. Kerry his second home from around 1934 until his death there in 1950. His experiences in Ireland appear to have influenced him melodically in the traditional folk dance-like textures he embraces, particularly throughout his early Piano Trio and Violin Sonata featured on this album alongside his Prelude for Cello and Piano and Sonata for Two Violins.
Mary set up Europe's most westerly Music Festival, Chamber Music on Valentia on Valentia Island, Co. Kerry 9 years ago. Each year she highlights (often rarely performed) music by Moeran from the first half of the 20th century, with the goal of reawakening an interest in and exposure to the unique music by this composer who had unbreakable links with Ireland and took vibrant and vital influences from the landscape, the people and the place.
