The Society for the Study of Sound and Music in Games (SSSMG) is pleased to announce the launch of the Journal of Sound and Music in Games (JSMG), to be published in partnership with the University of California Press.

JSMG is a peer-reviewed journal that presents high-quality research concerning all areas of music and/or sound in games. It serves a diverse community of readers and authors, encompassing industry practitioners alongside scholars from disciplinary perspectives including anthropology, computer science, media/game studies, philosophy, psychology and sociology, as well as musicology.

Dr Tim Summers, Lecturer in Music at Royal Holloway, is Associate Editor of the journal. Tim is a founding member of the pioneering Ludomusicology Research Group, and author of the book Understanding Video Game Music (Cambridge University Press, 2016), as well as of numerous articles and chapters on game music and other topics.

Tim comments, 'I'm thrilled to be part of the editorial team of this new and exciting journal, alongside Professor Stephen Baysted (Editor in Chief, Chichester) and Elizabeth Medina-Gray (Associate Editor, Ithaca). This journal will be a meeting place for the hugely diverse field of research on game sound and music, as well as facilitating dialogue between the industry and academy.'

For more information and submission instructions, please visit the journal’s page at the SSSMG website, or email the editors at jsmg@sssmg.org.
