The Music Department is leading on the establishment of a multidisciplinary Centre for Audiovisual Research at Royal Holloway.  Based in the School of Performing and Digital Arts, but with members drawn from Music, Drama, Media Arts, Psychology, English, French, Management and History, the Centre’s aim is to galvanise College research on audiovisuality in its different cultural forms.  The Centre will provide opportunities for multi-disciplinary perspectives on audiovisual cultures, including research into audiovisuality as a dimension of human sensory processing, as undertaken by researchers in the Department of Psychology.

At the launch a special panel considered the question ‘What is distinctive about audiovisuality?’,  with position papers from Professor K.J. Donnelly (Southampton), Professor Carol Vernallis (Stanford), Dr. Rupert Cox (Manchester) and video artist Terry Smith.  Smith’s work ‘Projections’ was afforded a sneak preview in the Emily Wilding Davison Building’s Exhibition Space (see picture).

For inquiries, please contact the centre’s director, Professor Julie Brown.
