Congratulations to Professor Rainer Dietmann who was awarded the prestigious Gauß Professorship!
Prof Dietmann and Gauß
The Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen which awards the professorship writes: “With the Gauß Professorship the Academy invites extraordinary scientists from abroad to Göttingen. This enables international exchange, focused on subjects originally represented by Gauß.” The idea is that the guest professors take Gauß’ original professorship in turn. This initiative started in 1955 hundred years after Gauß died.
The professorship caries no obligations but Professor Dietmann is welcome to give seminars and lectures and can participate in meetings of the Akademie. Professor Dietmann was awarded this prize based on his outstanding research work in analytic number theory. He is one of the world-leading researchers on Diophantine equations and their connections to other areas such as Probabilistic Galois Theory.
