The competition took place on Saturday 11th of March, with the participation of teams from the University of Surrey, the University of Law, and Royal Holloway, University of London.

Last week students from the University of Surrey, the University of Law, and Royal Holloway, University of London came together to put in practice their client interviewing skills in the Chris Andrews Memorial Competition. This competition takes place every year and is sponsored by the Surrey Law Society. This year, the event was held in the Windsor Building at Royal Holloway, University of London, with the participation of legal practitioners, members of the Surrey Law Society, that judged the competition.

The College was represented by three teams, formed by students from the Department of Law and Criminology: Abigail Summers and Megan Williams, Diya Mahil and Ady Choudhury, and Minseog Kim and Daniel Newman. The students faced two scenarios, interviewing different clients with problems concerning nuisance complaints and divorce. After three rounds of interviews and some deliberation, the judges decided on the winners:

First prize: Abigail Summers and Megan Williams (Royal Holloway, University of London)

Second prize: Holly Flynn and Antonieta Alvarez (University of Surrey)

Third Prize: Minseog Kim and Daniel Newman (Royal Holloway, University of London)

All participants did an excellent job of bringing together legal research, teamwork, and interviewing skills to interview clients in a professional and ethical manner. The judges were very impressed at the quality of the competition.

The academic staff at the Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London thanks all the participants, the Surrey Law Society, the judges, the Royal Holloway Student Law Society, and the students/actors that helped with the organization and made the competition possible.

We look forward to seeing new faces in the 2023-24 competition next year. Please get in contact with the Law Society if you are interested in getting involved.
