Dr Adeyemi’s paper focuses on the main regulatory instrument in Nigeria with respect to power (Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005). It discusses opportunities for developing an appropriate legal framework that will facilitate and promote the integration of renewable energy (RE) into Nigeria’s energy mix through the coming into force of the Nigeria Electricity Bill 2022 (NEB 2022).

The paper examines the prospects for increased RE adoption taking into account social and environmental issues. It analyses the existing legal framework and the likelihood that the draft NEB 2022 will further promote RE integration in a socially and environmentally responsible manner and the implications this might have for promoting RE.
