Studying Spanish

Studying Spanish

Spanish is spoken as a first language by around 470 million people across the globe.

In many countries, such as the United States, it plays an increasingly influential role in business, culture and politics.

At Royal Holloway, you will develop an excellent knowledge of the Spanish language, as well as of translation, literature, film, visual arts, history and popular culture, and you will be guided by an international team of supportive specialists.

To learn Spanish and engage with the richness and diversity of Spanish-speaking culture is to acquire the key to a wide range of different communities in Europe, the Americas and Africa.

Alongside the analytical skills you will gain here, such knowledge and understanding will open doors to careers in international business, finance, media, the arts, law, translation, travel, consultancy and teaching, both in Britain and abroad.

Degree combinations

You can study Spanish as part of BA Modern Languages or as an element of CLC, European and International Studies (Spanish), or Liberal Arts. We also offer Spanish as a minor option in combination with subjects including Economics, Mathematics and Music.
