I’m Professor of Early Modern French and Comparative Literature, and I teach on the Modern Languages and Comparative Literature Cultures programmes in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
I teach on introductory and survey courses such as ML1000 (Critical Analysis for Linguists), FR1112 (The Individual and Society: Key Works), and FR2102 (Writing Romance and Desire), and also on more research-led courses such as ML2305 (Deviance, Defiance and Disorder in Early Modern Spanish and French Literature) and FR3125 (Villains and Villainy in Early Modern French Theatre).
A specialist in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French theatre by training, I am currently writing a book on misanthropy in European literature from 1600 to about 1840. My other research interests include theatre spectatorship; death and violence; gender and cross-dressing; laughter.
