Dr James Kent has been awarded funding through the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s (AHRC) flagship Open World Research Initiative (OWRI) for his project ‘“¡Yo soy Fidel!”: Post-Castro Cuba and the Cult of Personality’.
The project, which will run over two years, will be funded by the Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies project (MEITS). Drawing on fieldwork and practice-led research, Dr Kent's project will consider the ways that iconic Cuban images are produced and consumed in different transnational contexts. The project will build on Kent's own photographic work, which was produced in the immediate wake of Castro's death in November 2016.
