We are delighted to welcome Dr Cathy Smith to the Department this week. Cathy is joining us as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Indigenous knowledges as part of the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment, and Society.
Cathy is a political ecologist with an interdisciplinary background in ecology and human geography. She has particular interests in changing human relationships with fire and her research explores how human fire-use strategies are influenced by colonialism and capitalism, and at the social construction of 'expertise' in fire management. During her postdoctoral research, Cathy will be collaborating within the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society, helping an interdisciplinary team navigate the complexities of bridging indigenous/local knowledges with scientific fire models.
Welcome, Cathy! We look forward to meeting you in person soon.
