Professor Judith Hawley of the Department of English has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.

The honour is in recognition of her scholarship in eighteenth-century studies and in particular for her work on Alexander Pope’s Grotto. Founded in 1707, the Society is the most prestigious historical and antiquarian society in the country. To be elected an ‘FSA’, persons shall be 'excelling in the knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other nations' and be 'desirous to promote the honour, business and emoluments of the Society'.
