Welcome

The Department of English at Royal Holloway, University of London is innovative, energetic, creative and friendly, with a commitment to excellence and inclusion across our award-winning teaching, writing and research.

Our results speak for themselves: we are ranked 5th in the UK for Creative Writing (Complete University Guide 2019 and Times Good University Guide 2019), 19th for English (Times Good University Guide 2019), 19th for English and Creative Writing (The Guardian University League Table 2020), and 3rd for research environment (REF 2014).

But we pride ourselves on our people, our community, environment, and academic prominence. Our scholars have international reputations as expert writers, critical thinkers and influencers in their fields. In addition to our academic staff, we have an extended team of colleagues across the university focused on your wider student experience and also on ensuring your time at Royal Holloway is an investment in your future and career.
