Deep Marine Environments

Javier Hernández-Molina

I am a specialist in Marine Geology and Sedimentology and currently working in seismic stratigraphy, sedimentary processes and basin analysis, and am experienced in general core description and sediment structures identification. My research focuses on deep marine environments, with special emphasis on the influence of bottom-current circulation along continental margins as well as the study of Contourite Depositional Systems (CDSs), in both low latitude (e.g. Gulf of Cadiz) and high latitude (e.g. Argentine & Antarctic) margins.

I have been co-chief of the IODP Expedition 339 and proponent of new proposals (IODP-732; IODP-771; IODP-868; IODP 991 and the Amphibious IODP+ICDP IMMAGE proposals), which are under evaluation.

Currently I am leading the international research group “The Drifters” and a Joint Industry Project (JIP) between academia and industry for the period 2017-2020.
