Another grant awarded to Dr Sara Bernardini

  • Date19 March 2019

The Multi-Platform Inspection, Maintenance & Repair in extreme environments (MIMRee) project is funded by Innovate UK.

The MIMRee project aims at engineering a team of intelligent robotic vehicles (Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and climbing repair robots) for the autonomous operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms, specifically external inspection, maintenance and repair of wind turbine blades.

The MIMRee project will introduce a step-change in the Operations and Maintenance of offshore wind farms by removing humans from the loop during the inspection, maintenance and repair of offshore wind turbine blades. The aim is to significantly reduce the costs and turbine downtime associated with these tasks and reduce the risks of using rope access technicians.

The project includes Plant Integrity Limited, Thales UK Limited, Wootzano Limited, BladeBug Limited, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, University of Manchester, University of Bristol, and Royal College of Art.
