  • Date23 August 2022

Tiger-Lily Goldsmith, a 3rd year undergraduate student in the Computer Science department, presented a paper at IJCAI-ECAI 2022, the 31st International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the 25th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence, regarded as the premier international gathering of researchers in AI!

The conference took place at Vienna, where Tiger-Lily gave an oral and a poster presentation.

Her paper, entitled ‘Parameterized Complexity of Hotelling-Downs with Party Nominees’,  studies the computational complexity of Nash equilibria in a model arising from strategic positioning on spatial competition.

This project was the outcome of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP) offered by the Department of Computer Science and it was co-supervised by Argyrios Deligkas and Eduard Eiben.

Commenting on her experience , Tiger Lily said,

“Attending IJCAI has been the highlight of my career as a computer scientist so far, with the exception of the day I first started working with Argyrios and Eduard. Throughout the whole week in Vienna I learnt so much and met so many inspiring people. The whole experience has made me want to work even harder and I’m looking forward to the next conference! If you have a chance to do UROP, my advice is to take it and give it your all.”

UROP projects are individual research projects conducted under the supervision of academics, often in collaboration with other members of their research groups. They allow undergraduate students to experience research first-hand and provide training in relevant research skills.

Our specialist AI degree courses are designed to give the knowledge, skills and practical experience our students need to pursue a career at the cutting edge of AI and help to turn technological innovations into meaningful solutions that transform the way we live.
