  • Date24 March 2021

Members of the Departments of Classics and History have come together to launch the Royal Holloway Roman History Forum. The Forum brings together teaching and research in Roman and Late Roman History at Royal Holloway. Across Classics and History we have seven lecturers and together we are a major national centre of research and teaching in Roman and late Roman history.

The Forum enables us to develop teaching which already ranges across Roman history from the foundation of the city through to the early Medieval period and to develop innovative new modules across various undergraduate programmes, including Ancient HistoryClassical Archaeology and Ancient HistoryHistoryAncient and Medieval History, and Classical Studies. The researchers in the Forum have internationally-recognised strengths in domestic and gender history, the study of Christianity, and imperial systems.

Richard Alston, Professor of Roman History, remarked, ‘This is a great development. It gives us the opportunity to show off the excellence of our research work in Roman history and to work together to provide our students with first-class teaching at the cutting edge of the discipline’.
