Schools initiative: get in touch!

Discover something new in the ancient world with RHUL at your school

Get in touch to help us help you enrich your teaching and learning by exploring the classical past

Conversations with schools are a vital part of the access and outreach work we do here in the Department of Classics at Royal Holloway and something we really enjoy. We’re always looking for ways to enrich and improve these interactions so that the talks and resources we offer meet the needs of teachers and students by supporting and enhancing learning. We would love to hear your ideas about the kinds of activities and resources we can provide to enrich your teaching and learning.

We regularly work with schools teaching classical subjects like Classical Civilisation, Ancient History, Latin, and Greek, as well as with those offering subjects such as English, History, and modern languages who are interested in looking at their syllabi from different perspectives and opening up new areas of thought amongst their students. There are some fascinating and often surprising connections to be made between the classical past and subjects across the curriculum, and students are excited to find that they can turn to the ancient world to discover an entirely new way of looking at a familiar subject.

Whether your school teaches classical subjects or not, we would like to invite you to get in touch and let us know what we can offer that will support and enhance teaching and learning at your school. This year we are particularly keen to focus on online events and resources, such as talks and seminars via MS Teams, Zoom and other platforms, as well as lesson packs and activity plans. We would like to know:

  1. Which topics would you like our talks and other resources to cover?
  2. What kinds of resources can we offer that will best support and enhance your teaching?
  3. What subject(s) are your students studying?
  4. Information about your school and students (name of school, type of school, school year of your students, how many students are in your class).
  5. Which platform would you prefer to use for online talks and/or seminars?

Please get in touch and submit your answers to our admissions tutor, Dr Richard Hawley (richard.hawley@rhul.ac.uk). You can find out more about the type of talks and online resources we already offer by checking out our Classics schools and outreach hub. We look forward to hearing from you!
