  • Date02 March 2017

Accounting both reflects and shapes the world in which we live. Royal Holloway’s world-class expertise in accounting places an emphasis on a range of non-economic roles within organisations and society, while also developing key insights into how accounting can be used to enhance sustainable prosperity of organisations and society.

We are extremely pleased that two of our colleagues have been announced as winners of 2016 BAFA* Awards, each in recognition of their substantial and direct contribution to UK academic accounting and finance life.

Distinguished Academic Award: Professor Jeffrey Unerman

Lifetime Achievement Award: Professor Christopher Napier

These highly prestigious awards will be presented to Jeffrey and Christopher at the BAFA Annual Conference Dinner at the Scottish Parliament Building on 11 April 2017.  At the same Edinburgh conference, Professor Christopher Nobes will give the plenary lecture related to his DAA award of 2015. In the 23 years for which the DAA awards have been running, this is the first time that the award has been received two years in a row by academics from the same institution. This is a great achievement for accounting at Royal Holloway. We were also ranked joint 1st in the world for other accounting research by BYU Accounting Rankings 2016.

*The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) provides a voice for the UK’s accounting and finance community and is an essential resource for campaigners, researchers, educators, students, and practitioners who have a keen interest in developing accounting and finance as an academic discipline. BAFA encourages the development of innovative approaches to research and teaching in accounting and finance. BAFA also collaborates with other organisations (such as the Academy of Social Sciences, the British Academy, and accounting professional bodies) to promote accounting and finance as a social science that has effects on professional practice and on society.
