The School of Business and Management is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Suki Sian as Professor of Accounting and Head of the Accounting and Financial Management Department. Her appointment follows a very successful international search which has been led by Professors Agyemang, Rinaldi and Tregidga.
Professor Sian will be joining us from Queen Mary University of London, where she was Head of Department of Accounting and Financial Management for six years and a serving member of the Senior Leadership Team in the School of Business and Management. At QMUL, she was the founding director of AARG (Accounting and Accountability Research Group) and a member of CRED (the Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity). Suki’s research is themed around the profession and professionalisation processes in accountancy. Her work has a particular focus on: exclusion from and marginalisation within the accounting profession on the basis of race, class and caste; historical studies of professionalisation processes; gender-based marginalisation and discontinuous careers in contemporary professional accountancy and, also, diversity and social mobility within the profession. More recent work has drawn attention to changes in the audit model arising from enforced homeworking with a particular focus on how this has an impact on gender equality. She has published in journals such as Accounting, Organisations and Society; Critical Perspectives on Accounting; Accounting, Auditing and Accountability. Suki holds an MSc from The London School of Economics and a PhD in Accounting from The University of Aberdeen. She is an ICAEW member, having worked as an auditor and accountant in practice.
Professor Christos Tsinopoulos, Executive Dean of the School of Business and Management has extended a special thanks to Professors Helen Tregidga and Leonardo Rinaldi who stepped in at a very critical time to lead the department temporarily following the very successful tenure of Dr Julinda Nuri. Special thanks also to Professor Agyemang for her work on this search.
The School welcomes Professor Sian, who will be joining us from the 15th of September, and wish her the best of luck for her new position.
