Royal Holloway’s Science Festival returns on Saturday 27 May and promises to be a great day of fun hands-on activities, educational talks and shows for all ages.
The free festival takes place from 10am to 4pm at the Royal Holloway, University of London campus in Egham, Surrey.
Those visiting the festival will be treated to a host of interactive displays and talks from, and for, people with a passion for science.
Special guests will include TV maths champion and author, Bobby Seagull on the magic of numbers, along with the popular Wiggly Wildshow, Birds of Prey and the Gauge One Model Railway Association Surrey with their miniature steam trains.
The programme will include a range of things to see and do to explore science from across the University’s science departments, with a treasure trail for younger visitors to complete their Science Passport.
Other activities offered on the day are:
- thrilling Big Bang Experience physics talks
- DNA extraction from strawberries
- exploring meteorites and a moon sample
- racing robots
- dipping into water and wildlife habitats
- mind bending illusions and emotion recognition
- sensing nature and learning about climate change and lots more.

Professor Klaus Dodds, Executive Dean of the School of Life Sciences and the Environment said: “Royal Holloway is home to a wealth of pioneering research, and the Science Festival really gives people the chance to experience some of this astonishing work first hand, meet staff and students and go inside our science departments.
“We have a fantastic line up of activities taking place at this year’s Royal Holloway Science Festival and all are welcome to come and be inspired by the wonder of science. It’s set to be an exciting day for all ages.”
People don’t need to book to attend the festival and free car parking is available on the University’s campus. Free tickets to individual shows will be released on the day at the information point in the Windsor Building. Tickets will be released at 9.45am and 11.45am.
Refreshments are available to purchase at the festival food fair and other outlets across campus.
