Royal Holloway students get involved in Make a Difference Day 2020

  • Date02 November 2020

Make a Difference Day is a national initiative where over 120,000 volunteers nationwide give up their time to make a difference to their local community.

This year, Royal Holloway, University of London, encouraged students to take part in this annual volunteering event on Friday 23 October. Royal Holloway has been supporting the initiative for over ten years and this year a group of volunteer students went into Egham and Englefield Green to pick up litter.

Phil Simcock, Volunteering Manager at Royal Holloway, said: “The students who volunteered their time for this years’ ‘Make a Difference Day’ collected over ten bin bags full of litter.

“Some of the items of litter collected, included a broken hard hat, multiple discarded masks and even a broken Kindle. The students followed all UK Government guidelines and socially distanced with those that weren’t in their household.

“It was fantastic that we were able to run the Make a Difference Day event, even in these unprecedented times. Royal Holloway has held the event annually for over ten years now, and it was great that we could do it again.”
