Local community

Royal Holloway, an integral part of the local community since 1886

Our relationship with our wider community is important to us.

We’re fortunate to be located between the two historic destinations of Englefield Green and Egham and we’ve been contributing to the local area since 1886. The village and town are home to many of our staff and students and we value the ties we have with community as a whole.

Our students bring many positives to the local area, from award-winning volunteering initiatives to creative community events. We also support local businesses and organisations and key local activities.

We take being a good neighbour seriously; encouraging all students living or passing through the local community to follow our Be a good neighbour guidelines so that we are all working together to maintain a harmonious community.

The university works closely with Runnymede Borough Council, Environmental Health and Surrey Police. If you have any community concerns, our joint leaflet explains what each organisation can tackle and how to make contact with the relevant authority.

We meet regularly with residents groups, councillors and businesses and our Community Matters newsletter shares university news together with updates on projects and community initiatives.  We are also committed to engaging and consulting with the local community about our plans to develop our historic estate.

As one of the UK’s leading universities Royal Holloway makes a significant contribution to the local economy.

Surrey County Council, in partnership with Surrey’s three leading universities – Royal Holloway, University of London; University for the Creative Arts; and the University of Surrey - have now aligned with a new Civic Agreement for Surrey.

We welcome the local community to enjoy our 135 acre campus and take part in the wide variety of events and activities on offer, from family days out to regular free concerts and performances.  Find out about events.

Timetables for the Diamond Buses service, run in partnership with Royal Holloway, can be found here.
