Learning and Research

The Art Collections have always been a teaching collection, relevant to a wide range of courses available at the University. We welcome visiting researchers, school groups and families to explore our collections.

The Culture Team has led teaching sessions with colleagues in the History, English, Drama, Media Arts, Modern Languages and Cultures, and Geography departments but we are keen for the collection to be used for more courses. Sessions have included seminars in the gallery on the paintings and looking at drawings from the collections in the archives reading room as well as lectures on various aspects of art and curating.

Students have also used items from the collection as the subject of projects and dissertations.

The Art Collections have been used for a successful project by the Information Security department and could be used by other non-art related departments as the basis for projects. If you would like to discuss any teaching or project ideas please contact us.

The collections housed in the Picture Gallery are an excellent resource for schools, and an alternative to visiting galleries in central London.

If you would like to visit the gallery with your school please contact us.
